My approach
My therapeutic approach is integrative and collaborative, grounded primarily in Schema Therapy. This model aims to identify, understand, and address the Schemas that influence our lives. Schemas are deeply rooted patterns made up of thoughts, memories, and emotions that shape how we perceive the world and relate to ourselves and others. I also draw from person-centred, systemic, and ACT, according to the person’s needs and the therapeutic plan.
My approach is anchored in a safe and trustworthy therapeutic relationship. From this foundation, we can give room to difficult feelings, explore challenging experiences, recognise recurring patterns, and try out new ways of responding. The therapeutic process blends insight and emotional healing with practical cognitive and behavioural tools, supporting change that is both understood and embodied.
I offer a thorough assessment and craft a therapeutic plan in collaboration with you. Sessions are paced to your needs, and we review progress to adjust the approach as required. I attend to emotion, cognition, and behaviour with particular attention to lived experience. I can work in a more directive, structured way to help you reach specific goals, or provide a safe space to attend to wounds from the past or explore unfinished business and address relational dynamics. Where helpful, I refer to other professionals to support the work.
Frequently Asked Questions
I am interested in psychotherapy, but I am not sure if I should start.
It is okay to feel uncertain. You do not need to be completely sure to take a first step. An initial session can simply be a way to explore whether therapy feels right for you.
What is psychotherapy, really?
Psychotherapy is a space to talk, reflect, and make sense of your experiences. It can help you understand patterns, process difficulties, heal from past wound and find new ways of relating to yourself and others.
Do I need to have a serious problem?
Not at all. People come to therapy for many different reasons—feeling stuck, overwhelmed, low in mood, facing relationship challenges, or wanting to grow and understand themselves more deeply.
What happens in the first session?
The first session is usually a conversation about what brings you, what you might need, and how we might work together. It is also a chance for you to see whether I am the right fit for you.
What if I do not know what to say?
That is very common. You can start wherever you are. Part of the process is finding the words together.
Is what I say confidential?
Yes, confidentiality is a core part of psychotherapy, with a few limits related to safety which can be explained clearly from the beginning.
How long does therapy take?
There is no fixed length. Some people come for a short period around a specific issue, while others choose longer-term work.
How do I know if you are the right therapist for me?
You might know straight away, or you may need a few sessions to decide. Some markers are feeling safe, feeling understood, and a sense that the work is moving in a direction that makes sense to you.
